Continental Re names new boss for Kenya office

Continental Reinsurance has named Kevin Mworia as the new managing director for the Kenya subsidiary following the retirement of Souvik Banerjea after five years.

Mr Mworia, a Kenyan, joins Continental Re from Sanlam Kenya Group, where he served as the principal officer of Sanlam Life and group chief finance officer of Sanlam Kenya Plc.

He has also served at Liberty Life and Metropolitan Cannon in senior finance roles. Mr Mworia started his career at the ICEA LION Group.

The reinsurer made the official announcement in Nairobi in an event that was graced by Continental Re Group managing director Lawrence Nazare and other industry leaders.

“Kevin steps into the large shoes that have been left by Souvik with a stellar career that aligns with who we are. We found his cultural attributes, leadership capabilities and also his values a great fit for us as Continental Re. We thank Souvik for his contribution and wish him well in his next chapter,” said Mr Nazare.

The subsidiary’s contribution to the Continental Re Group’s total earned premium has grown from four percent in 2008 to 39 percent last year.

Continental Re’s Nairobi office serves as the group’s underwriting centre for the Eastern region, covering Kenya, Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Rwanda, South Sudan, Seychelles, Somalia, Tanzania, and Uganda. It started as a branch in 2008 and became a subsidiary in 2013.
